The world of nutrition is becoming increasingly competitive, but the path to a successful nutrition business is clearer than ever. In this week’s episode of How to Build a Profitable Nutrition Business, I had the pleasure of chatting with Aidan Muir—better known as "Aiden the Dietitian" on social media. Aiden runs a flourishing business called Ideal Nutrition, employing 10 dietitians and building a strong client base primarily through effective social media strategies. His insights on using social platforms to build a business are invaluable for any aspiring nutrition entrepreneur.

Promise: The Key to Standing Out

“Why did I stick with Instagram for three years when I wasn’t getting a single client from it?” Aiden mused during our conversation. This question captures the essence of his persistence and dedication—two critical traits for any nutrition professional looking to build a profitable business.

When Aiden started out, his Instagram page was getting crickets. But he didn’t give up. He kept posting, kept refining his message, and today he has over 77,000 followers on Instagram and 9,000 on TikTok, with Ideal Nutrition serving hundreds of clients every month. It’s this persistence and unwavering commitment that transformed his “crickets” into a flourishing business.

Imagine Growing Your Own Nutrition Business with a Strong Online Presence

Picture this: Your social media is buzzing with engagement, clients are reaching out to book your services, and your business is scaling beyond what you thought possible. This is the future Aiden envisioned for his own business and is now living out daily.

He believes in making his business visible by diversifying content creation and leveraging a personal approach to connect with potential clients. Aiden’s strategy? Consistent, high-quality content that serves to educate, engage, and—most importantly—showcase the expertise behind the posts.

Aiden shared: “It was three years before I got my first client on Instagram. But around the two-and-a-half-year mark, I saw small signs of growth. I knew it was just a matter of time before things clicked.” He didn't let the slow start deter him, and instead, he doubled down on what he knew was a powerful medium to connect with his target audience.

Proof: Building a Social Media Empire—One Post at a Time

So, how did Aiden go from zero clients to a thriving business with 10 dietitians? It wasn’t luck—it was strategy. Here are some of his key takeaways:

  1. Focus on a Niche: Aiden initially struggled to gain traction because his audience wasn’t specific. Once he shifted focus to targeting local powerlifters and fitness enthusiasts in Brisbane, things changed. He recalls, “I started following every powerlifting gym in Brisbane and engaging with their followers. That’s when I saw real traction.”
  2. Create a Consistent Content Plan: Aiden posts five times a week, sticking to a mix of educational content, client stories, and engaging topics like common nutrition myths. He spends around 30 minutes per post, ensuring each one is high quality without sacrificing consistency.
  3. Leverage Collaborations: “Collaborations have been a game-changer,” says Aiden. By working with other dietitians and fitness professionals, he gains access to new audiences. “The trick is to approach with an idea ready to go. Don’t just say ‘we should collaborate.’ Present them with a ready-made post or concept.”
  4. Balance Evidence-Based Content with Engagement: Aiden is committed to being evidence-based in a field where misinformation often runs rampant. He says, “It’s tricky because the most engaging content isn’t always evidence-based. But I stick to my principles and aim to educate as well as entertain.” This authenticity has built a loyal following that translates into real business growth.

Push: Ready to Build Your Profitable Nutrition Business?

Aiden’s journey from a part-time dietitian to a business owner with a thriving online presence is a blueprint for any nutrition professional looking to scale their business. His advice is clear: “It takes time and consistency, but when it pays off, it’s exponential.”

If you’re looking to grow your nutrition business using social media, consider these key strategies:

  1. Narrow your niche and target your ideal clients.
  2. Create a content schedule and stick to it.
  3. Engage with your community authentically.
  4. Focus on adding value through evidence-based content.
  5. Utilise collaborations strategically.

As Aiden puts it, “You might not see results right away, but when you do, it can take off faster than you ever imagined.” Ready to get started? Join us on the next episode of How to Build a Profitable Nutrition Business for more expert insights, and let’s make your business thrive together.
